New Perodua Viva

New Perodua Viva - Front

Finally it’s out, the replacement model that we’ve all heard rumours about, from Perodua Malaysia. I must say this model is simply ‘viva-ciously’ Viva.

How can you run away from a car that starts it’s price below RM30,000? All this while everyone was so eager to find out on how it will look like, well wait no more, alas we have the full details.

The new Perodua Viva, simply put, has combinations of exclusive design and practical spaciousness all loaded up into a convenient, compact and powerful package. Most of the Malaysians have enjoyed the smaller segment models from Perodua for more than a decade now, and it’s about time that a new breed evolve.

Having said that, I decided to have a feel for myself on this new star. From the exterior it drew a striking resemblance of two popular cars, depending on which angle you look at it from. A mish mash of a Toyota Avanza and a Myvi is quite evident in the new Perodua Viva.

New Perodua Viva - Side

If you look into the Viva in terms of interior, you would definitely find it to be slightly longer by 10mm as compared to its ‘elder brother’, the Perodua Myvi. Getting into one is also an experience, as you would find that the door’s have a 90 degrees opening, this makes access; loading and unloading , that much convenient. This is an improvement, if you compare this with the Myvi as it’s only an 80 degree opening, but you get a bigger improvement if you compared it to Kelisa’s only 60 degree opening.

But with all the good, there are some minor setbacks, as in the interior width, where its 100mm smaller than the Myvi. Then again this is something you should not worry about as it’s still wider than the former Kelisa. Adding to it’s technical improvements, the premium version of the new Perodua Viva comes fitted with an electrically retractable side mirror function, where even the Myvi doesn’t have. This makes it the first of it’s kind under the Perodua badge.

New Perodua Viva - Back

Get ready for a smoother drive as the whole range of new Viva uses McPherson struts for it’s front and torsion beams at the back. The only difference here is that the 1000cc models get an additional stabilizer bar placed upfront.

One thing you should know as well is that both the 660cc and 850cc models will not be fitted with power steering. Don’t fret, as you would still get all the other goodies, just minus the alloy rims, retractable side mirrors and fabric door panels from your wish list.

Another plus factor for Perodua Viva, is that, even the 660’s and 850’s get to enjoy the benefits of having a DVVT (Dynamic Variable Valve Timing) engine. Here you’ll get an increased engine performance through it’s DOHC (Double Overhead Camshaft) and it’s EFI (Electronic Fuel Injection) providing a more economical petrol consumption.

Available in four ‘trims’ (variants) - 660cc, 850cc (both manuals only), 1000cc and 1,000cc premium (choice of manual or auto). Where colours are concerned, the 660’s will have three colour options , ranging from - White (solid), Glittering Silver & Passion Red. The 850’s having an additional - Tropical Green colour, making it four. The 1000cc range for this new Perodua Viva will get another addition which is - Pearl Jade, making it a total of five colours for them.

The new Perodua Viva now comes with a 3 years or 100,000km (whichever comes first) manufacturer’s warranty.

Booking fee for this model is RM500 throughout Peninsula Malaysia. For more enquiries on placing bookings, you may contact Mr. Susil@ 013-3504726. It is said that the current waiting period is around a month.
