Mazda2

Zoom-Zoom, sounds like a child playing with his toy car! It’s also funny that Mazda had somehow started using this same expression to launch their first next-generation model - the Mazda6, back in 2002. They somehow wanted to express their love for motion, by using the phrase Zoom-Zoom, as children tend to imitate the sound of an engine in that similar manner. More than just a mere brand slogan for them, Mazda wanted a different and unique approach in describing their ultimate goal: a totally unforgettable driving experience.

This is the all-new Mazda2 (also known as Mazda Demio in Japan), which spots an uncanny resemblance to the Toyota Yaris, and they both share being in the similar class with the likes of Peugeot 207 and the Vauxhall Corsa. It’s not just a model change as we assume but Mazda’s first of its kind in introducing to us its evolution models. It simply reflects not only the passion in Zoom-Zoom, but its high range of capabilities refined in a competitive environment, by using customer feedback data from around the globe.

The ultimate aim was to further refine Mazda’s product DNA, which would simply break-down into areas such as - Distinctive Design, Exceptional Functionality, and Responsive Handling and Performance. Adding into their refining aspects would be their aim to enhance driving quality in terms of attributes such as ride comfort and quietness, as well as committing to global environment and safety standards.

Mazda2 will indeed help Mazda make their presence felt in the B-car segment, especially doing well in Europe, where this segment has grown in the last six years by around 10 per cent, and its also where statistic show that, one in every four cars tend to be a B-segment car.

While many other carmakers around the globe spend millions of dollars in trying to have their small cars enlarged, Mazda on the other-hand decides to reduce the size of their B-car with respect to the Mazda2, and yet remarkably, finds the ability to meet the mainstream demands of the globes compact-car customers while enhancing the overall safety aspects.

The Mazda2 is stunningly bold and stylish and with all their new colours and extra features, refreshed design, it’s definitely something you’ll find hard to resist.

The major design challenge which they managed to tackle remarkably well would be expressing dynamic movement within the body’s limited dimensions . The Mazda2 features a 60:40-split rear seat configuration which guarantees convenience and ample luggage space (469 litres) to meet with the requirements of ones daily needs. With the rear seats in use, the cargo space should be around 250 litres.

Mazda2 will initially have two petrol engines coming out into the market:
MZR 1.3 DOHC (fitted with a standard 74bhp and followed by a 83bhp high-power derivative, depending on which market it penetrates) and also a MZR 1.5 DOHC (102bhp) engine, each features a sequential valve timing system and also an optimised exhaust-valve timing system. For the added benefit of the European market, a fuel-efficient, clean-running MZ-CD 1.4 diesel engine is scheduled to be added into the pipeline.

Cheers Mazda. With Nissan’s repeating uninspired designs, I am glad to have Mazda to fill the vacancy in the highly inpired Japanese Car Segment. Good for all car buyers!! We have one more choice other than Toyota and Honda.
