Toyota Window Tint

posted in Car Accessories |

In the past, drivers who were tormented by the scorching heat of the sun would turn to the use of conventional tinted film (which offer token protection) or the more effective BUT blatantly illegal reflective films. So, to overcome this, UMW Toyota in Malaysia has finally realized that there is a high demand for window tint, especially given the fact of our country’s hot climate, all year round. The Toyota Genuine Accessory window tint will be available on optional basis.

In their surveys which they conducted they have noticed that 70 per cent of Toyota customers in Malaysia have a high tendency to install this addition into their new cars. From my sources, it is said that UMW Toyota is targeting to implement this option somewhere middle of this month. So to all prospective Toyota vehicle buyers, this is indeed good news, as there is no longer a need to custom fit this at a outdoor accessory shop, when all this can be included at the point when you place an order at their relevant branches.

Currently a lot of us would install a custom window tint from various after-market vendors as this option was not available direct from their factory. Apparently all Toyota models sold under their (UMW Toyota) flagship with the likes of : Camry, Altis, Vios, Yaris, Hilux, Fortuner, Innova, Avanza, Wish, RAV4, Previa and Hiace will have this option of installation.

They will have two variants for you to decide on :

  1. Security Film
  2. Solar Film

One thing is for sure, when you have a window tint on a vehicle it basically has various other functions besides just reducing the heat element. We can safely breakdown the features from the two films into  :

Benefits of a Security Film

  • Prevent from smash theft attack
  • Avoid personal injury due to flying glasses
  • Protect property from damage
  • Reduce trapped heat in vehicle

Benefits of a Solar Film

  • Protect from harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays
  • Reduce trapped heat in vehicle for better driving conditions

Rest assured that the Toyota OE fitted window tint is SIRIM approved and complies to JPJ VLT regulations (minimum 50% VLT for side and rear windows, minimum 70% VLT for front windshield) So, it’s definitely not going to be something that you would have problems with, when dealing with JPJ (road transport department).

Points to consider :

  1. Peace of mind - Conform to government (JPJ) regulations.
  2. Assured quality due to good installation condition and undergo severe testing and approved by Toyota standard.
  3. Basic vehicle warranty is not void.
  4. 7 years warranty.
  5. No risk of damaging customer vehicle.
  6. Financing through Hire Purchase option.

Now, you know, that having a very dark tint on your car doesn’t really serve it’s purpose unless you love getting caught by the authorities or you’re simply trying to be invisible from the preying eyes of the outside world. Lastly, to all those eager to go with this, take note that the proposed price to install the optional Toyota window tint would cost you in the ranges of RM1,650 - RM1,850 depending on model. So, whatever your expectation is, we at Car Crazy, figure its always better to go with factory fitted equipment.

Hi! i jx read thru ur comments n would like to ask somethin, i’ve purchased the 2008 vios (E) and i’ve tinted my car at a shop recommended by toyota.

I would like to know whether its only my car which has been tinted has a bit of driving difficulties at nite or does it apply to all vios owners.*It has some sort of reflection thru the heater lines when there is lights directed to my car or when there is other vehicle bhind my car.

And it sort of distract our attention as we do not know how many cars or motors are bhind.

Is it bcos the tint film has reflection and it causes this or is it bcos of the rear windscreen?

    Hi Michelle,

Thanks for joining us here at Car Crazy :)

As what I understand, Toyota on its own, doesn’t recommend installing of after-market products, since they already have their own products installed directly at factory level. Usually all these after-market installations are done by the sales rep’s themselves.

As for the glare that you see on your rear view glass, this could be due to effects of the tint installation. Normally tints on cars take time to bond with the glass, BUT this scenario should turn for the better within two weeks or so after the initial installation process.

If the glare still remains after this period, then its due to the tint material used, and not the windscreen itself.
