Newone @ Unfortunately in your case, you CAN'T install the Toyota Window Tint at Toyota Service Centers. UMW Toyota Service Centers do not sell the Window Tint on a "over-the-counter" basis. This is because, all Toyota Window Tint is currently being installed ONLY at Factory Level, meaning to say that, you can only get it installed when you place orders for their new car.

As for owners who already have the Toyota Window Tint pre-installed in their vehicles and need to get replacements based on defects and such, well, they basically would need to get in touch with their regular Service Advisor personnel and get them to arrange an appointment. This gives time for the personnel from the plant to be present at the relevant branch to do the re-installation.

Bru @ Well, it's basically all up-to-you at the end of the day. Tint prices are very competitive these days, just be wise with your decision. Ask around, see if any of your colleagues have cars already installed with the brand/type the sales rep is promoting. And more importantly, just make sure that the film you decide on, meets with JPJ (Road Transport Department) guidelines.

Also, find out from your car insurer before-hand on whether this particular brand/type of tint can be covered into your policy, as I've heard lately that some insurance companies nowadays are only accepting the inclusion of V-Kool film when you opt for Windscreen Coverage.

Hi Andrew,

It's unfortunate that you had to undergo a situation like this with your brand new car, but I'm hoping that you at least had the replacement costs covered by Insurance.

Yes, that is true, there are "some" : Jiran Anda (central), DMW1 Automotive (Sabah), Inrun Motor (Sarawak), Penang (North) and Temerloh (East); UMW Toyota Service Centers that do not provide the tinting replacement services at the moment. What you could do is get a new film installed at Eco Tint directly, as some reliable sources have disclosed.

My 1 month old Altis windscreen crack when I came back from Tesco along the Tunnel by pass and I send to Toyota service center in section 14. I was told that the replacement wind screen is not tinted and there is no where I can get it tinted by the UMW Toyota service centers. Is there a tinting center that I can go to get my new windscreen tinted like the ones provided by UMW Toyota?

Hi Michelle,

Thanks for joining us here at Car Crazy :)

As what I understand, Toyota on its own, doesn't recommend installing of after-market products, since they already have their own products installed directly at factory level. Usually all these after-market installations are done by the sales rep's themselves.

As for the glare that you see on your rear view glass, this could be due to effects of the tint installation. Normally tints on cars take time to bond with the glass, BUT this scenario should turn for the better within two weeks or so after the initial installation process.

If the glare still remains after this period, then its due to the tint material used, and not the windscreen itself.

Hi! i jx read thru ur comments n would like to ask somethin, i've purchased the 2008 vios (E) and i've tinted my car at a shop recommended by toyota.

I would like to know whether its only my car which has been tinted has a bit of driving difficulties at nite or does it apply to all vios owners.*It has some sort of reflection thru the heater lines when there is lights directed to my car or when there is other vehicle bhind my car.

And it sort of distract our attention as we do not know how many cars or motors are bhind.

Is it bcos the tint film has reflection and it causes this or is it bcos of the rear windscreen?
