When anyone ask’s me about the perfect sports car, non comes to my mind besides the Mitsubishi Evo. It somehow has a character that stands out and captivates all car lovers with it’s speed and design. Recently, at Detroits motor show held in January this year, Mitsubishi revealed the production version of the all-new Lancer Evo, which resembled very much like the concept of Prototype X.

The all-new Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution is a high-performance saloon. This is undoubtedly their 10th release of the famous Evo, and it is said to go on sale first in the UK, March 2008.

One things for sure as you would find some amount of detail changes made to the car’s exterior. They have made changes in certain areas by using different mirrors, fog lights and also a change on their headlights. As in the matter of the interior they are planning to change it slightly when the car finally goes into production phase later this year, but as we said earlier, we anticipate it to look much similar to the Prototype X cabin.

Another first for the all-new Lancer Evo would be in it’s name as the tradition of naming the follow-up generations of Evo with the usual Roman numerals will be dropped with the launch of this car. They will simply name it as Lancer Evolution, starting with the Europe market. But nevertheless all other trademarks of the Evo qualities will be retained in-tack. For all Evo lovers one things for sure, as they will still enjoy the power delivered from a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbocharged engine, a manual gearbox and the usual trick electronic driver aids.

Certain characteristics immenent in this new model will be an enhanced new engine, which is said to be a turbocharged variant out of the 4B11 unit and will be fitted to the standard Lancer, it’s also an all-alloy unit which can be related to the 2.4-litre four-cylinder engine used commonly by Chrysler in Dodges and also on the Jeeps. This so-called naturally aspirated engine will be capable of providing 150bhp and 198Nm. Speed lovers can expect the turbo to further boost rev’s to top 300bhp.

All would be lost if they didn’t enhance their transmission and thanks to the capable hands of their engineers the transmission will also be new, seeing a six-speed dual-clutch gearbox added with paddle shifters, in the likes of VW’s DSG transmission set-up. Further developments have taken place as Mitsubishi has also developed a newer version to it’s Super-All- Wheel-Control 4WD system for this model. It will then combine a centre differential, individual wheel braking, Active Yaw Control and stability control which tends to boost grip and improve overall usability. Making the all-new Lancer Evo easier to drive and more refined is prove that Mitsubishi has taken every measure possible to achieve this.

Personally, the all-new lancer Evolution looks all set to allow all levels of drivers to enjoy it’s speed and given it’s physical attributes, handling is definite to become easier and much safer. The all-new Lancer Evo will make it’s world premier at the Frankfurt Motor Show on the 11th of September, 2007

It looks vaguely like a BMW with a spoiler in the side view. The older versions, especially version VI and below, were more squared off. I’ve noticed most cars nowadays are starting to look similar, especially if designed for the American market.

I’ve always liked the Evo and Subaru’s WRX since I like rally racing and they are the only rally cars available in the US. I just can’t decide which one is better. This new Evo sounds very impressive; I’d like to see how it does vs. a WRX.

I just saw a local pro-am race here with two of these Evo’s participating in a Porsche series race. To be honest, by appearance only, they looked out of their class in my opinion. However, they held their own on the track.

While neither won or challenged for the win, this had to do more with their drivers than the car I believe. They seemed to adhere to the track better than I would have thought by their appearance and I am sure that these were turbo charged as they accelerated out of the corners well.

While not a car I would buy, I was extremely impressed with their on-track performance.

I do have to say I’m not into the new look of the Evo’s. The old square and wide body gave it a muscular look, but this one just doesn’t stand out from the crowd - If you ask me, from the side it just looks like another Mitsubishi Galant.

    Hi Guy’s,

Crystalattice @ Now that you’ve mentioned it, ya, it does seem like a BMW with a spoiler on the side. My pick on both your choices, I think I would go with the Lancer Evo, for now.

Dsmith @ Now this is something we don’t get to see every other day in Malaysia, “pro-am races”.

LocalTech @ Can’t argue on this, yes, some fans have the same feeling about this too. But, give me the keys and I’ll take it home … anytime :)
